In absentia
Well, I don't have much time to even read your blogs right now so will have to encourage everybody all at once on here! We're almost there to our goal. I am exhausted emotionally and physically and have little internet access for now. My brother has a tumor in his small bowel and is going to have a Whipple procedure done on Wednesday so please keep praying! At least now we know why he has been going downhill so quickly the last few months. Right now I am his security blanket, personal aid, etc so I can't even get to work very much. And, I have not been able to exercise either so I'm not sure that I'm going to be able to do a marathon on October 7th but we shall see. I had hoped to get up and come run 10 on Saturday morning but was afraid to leave him in the hospital as he needs so much help getting up to go to the bathroom. I considered getting up this morning to go as I got my sister to come down here to take turns spending the night in the hospital but I decided I needed the sleep worse than the run. Sleeping on the couches in hospitals leaves something to be desired. Back and neck hurting from that and from getting brother in and out of bed so many times to go to the bathroom. Run a few extra steps for me this week!!!!

My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you and your brother. I know first hand how difficult it is to spend days, weeks, months in the hospital caring for someone who is ill. It takes quite a toll.
I can only offer you two bits of advice:
1) be sure you are the advocate for your brother. Ask about everything, challenge anything that doesn't seem right. No one else cares as much about him or will look out for him like you will.
2) All that said, try to find a little time for yourself. Whether it's a short walk, a nap, or whatever you can work in...you will need that break whenever you can get it.
If there's anything I can do, please don't hesitate to ask. What hospital is your brother in? Is he here in Jackson? If so, is there anything you need?
My prayers are indeed with you, and your brother. You are a marathoner, just not the running kind next week. This too will help you in October. See ya soon...
Carol,
I am sorry to hear that about your brother. I will pray for him and you for strength to handle whatever the needs are. Hope to see you soon.
Hey Carol,
I am thinking and praying for your brother and you!....pg
Great advice from Cathy...I have spent many hours in hospitals and E.R.'s with my son who has gastroparesis. Carol, I will be glad to sit with him and give you a break or do anything that would be helpful to you. I know you are worried and the physical strain of being up there with him takes its toll quickly, so don't hesitate to reach out to your marathon friends...we want to help. My cell number is 601-720-0724.
I am praying for you and your brother.
Cheryl
Carol,
I am glad that they found the problem. Both of you will be in my prayers. Hang in there. I will check on you this week. Suzanne
Carol,
Clark and I are in Seattle but our thoughts and prayers are with you, esp. on Wed. I know God will take care of your brother. A whipple is a very big procedure as you well know.
Take care of yourself. You are such a strong person I know you will have no trouble doing the marathon even missing all these days. You are a marathoner if there ever was one! I know that is the last thing on your mind right now though.
Hang in there. Let us know what hospital yall are at. We will help you in any way we can.
Jana
Thinking of you and your family, I will put you on my family's prayer list. Taking it one day, one hour at a time. Such a loving, powerfully strong sister you are, standing with your brother.
Y'all are in our prayers, Carol. Hang in there! Call if you need anything.
Oh Carol, you are going through such a tough time but you know we are all pulling for you and your brother. Hang in there, don't give up, and take care of yourself too!
